Après Swim Haircare
Not a day in the summer goes by without me taking a dip in either my pool or at the beach. That said, the chlorine and other harsh chemicals in pools — and the sea salt and sun at the beach — can make your hair dry and brittle, something I desperately try to avoid. But I have finally come up with the perfect routine to rehydrate my locks and keep them soft and smooth (and not green!), even after days upon days of floating endlessly in the water. So, without further ado, here is my après swim haircare routine…
Two or three times a week I like to use a little swim kit that includes various shampoos and conditioners. I have a few sets that I have been using recently, and they are all great for different things. I love to cocktail them, using a shampoo from one set and pairing it with a conditioner from another. This is the perfect way to create a customized combination (a “cocktail”).
A long day at the beach leaves the most beautiful natural beach babe waves, but it also ends up giving my hair a dirty feeling, too — as if I can actually feel the sea salt in my hair. By the end of the day, it just feels sticky and I’m so ready to wash it. So, to revitalize my hair and give it a little boost, I like to use H20+ Beauty’s Eucalyptus & Aloe shampoo and conditioner. The aloe and eucalyptus are soothing and energizing all at once, so it’s just what I need to freshen up and rejuvenate my hair.
Now for post-pool haircare: As I mentioned, the chlorine and other harsh chemicals feel like they suck the moisture right out of my hair. My poor locks always feel so brittle and dehydrated when I get out of the pool, which is the exact opposite of what I want. The Yes To Coconut & Argan Oil collection is my remedy for this. With coconut, argan, and kukui seed nut oils, these are super hydrating and restore my lackluster locks. The coconut scent also leaves you feeling like you’re still out in the sun, which is a bonus!
I use the Yes To Tea Tree & Sage Oil shampoo and conditioner very sparingly, but they are the best for after an especially long day in the sun. Every once in awhile, too much sun makes my scalp feel dry (have you ever burnt your scalp? It’s the worst!), so I use this pH-balancing shampoo and moisturizing conditioner to combat this. I only use the tiniest bit of product when I use these — like the size of a penny.
So, there you have it: the perfect little swim kits to mix and match for all of your summer haircare woes. Have you tried any of these? What are your favorite haircare products for summer that I should try?
