Newport Packing List

Summer is the perfect time to pack up your duffle bags and escape to a little weekend getaway. I mentioned at the beginning of the year that I wanted to explore more of the Northeast (remember this post?); instead of planning just two big vacations for the year, I wanted to go on as many smaller weekend getaways as possible. This weekend I am headed to Newport, Rhode Island, which looks like an absolutely beautiful location.

I’ve only been to Rhode Island once or twice, and they were when I was really little and there for soccer tournaments, so I didn’t exactly get to explore the state much. That being said, I’m pretty excited to head back to the Ocean State! So without further ado, here is my Newport packing list…

Newport is the quintessential New England summer escape, so I’m going fully-prepared with my classic and preppier pieces from my wardrobe. First and foremost is a pair of white jeans — they were the very first thing I pulled from my closet to put into my bag. And, what kind of New England look would I have without a blue striped shirt? That was the other piece that I packed right away.

I loaded up my bag with a few other items — namely chambray, flowy tanks, and shorts — and also piled in the sandals. I love packing a few different styles of sandals for weekend getaways in the summertime because they can help transform your look from day to night, beach to dinner and drinks, etc. (Think casual, flat, strappy sandals during the day and a pair of wedges for night.) Aside from sandals I also threw in a pair of practical but stylish sneakers (my white Chucks, of course), because a trip to Newport wouldn’t be complete with a walk along the Cliff Walk — a 3.5 trail along the shoreline.

Stay tuned for a few posts from my trip next week — you can expect an outfit post along with a Travel Diary, which will include photos from my trip and my travel guide to the island, filled with my recommendations for places to eat, play, shop, and stay. Also, if you are familiar with the Newport area, please leave any suggestions for restaurants or any other things to do — I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Do you have any weekend getaways planned?
Is there anything I should add to my Newport packing list?

xoxo

All great picks! Be sure to pack a sweater or light jacket of some nature because the evenings here in New England can get chilly! One of my favorite Newport go-tos are the mansion tours, it’s always fun to learn about live way back when.

So true! I wore my denim jacket pretty much all day yesterday — New England weather is so unpredictable, lol! And great recommendation; the mansions are absolutely stunning — so incredible! xx
