Off to the Beach

off-to-the-beach-1

As you’re reading this, I am packing up my car with my sister and headed on a road trip to spend the rest of the week at the beach with my family. The rest of my family left a few days ago, but she and I couldn’t leave until today. But, I am so excited to put down all of my work and relax for the next five days! I’ve got surf, sand, and sun (the three s’s!) on my mind (along with stand-up paddle boarding, popsicles, and prosecco — the three p’s!).  Like I usually do, I wanted to share what I am bringing for the trip, so if you’re planning any beach vacations you can get a little inspiration…

Swimsuit and cover-up combos are the name of the game, with some light and airy casual clothing pieces sprinkled in too, of course. Think beach first thing in the morning, brunch shortly after, and then back to the beach for the rest of the day, with a few trips to town or bike rides along the sand dunes here and there.

This spring I stocked up on a bunch of new swimsuits from Aerie — I swear they have had the best selection this year! Most of them are sold out by now, but a few other options (that I would pick out if I was choosing from their current selection!) are here, here, and here. As far as cover-ups go, I have been loving this one (but mine’s in white), and a crisp cotton or linen button up (I have this one) is always a great way to go, too. I, naturally, packed both. Although I’m making an effort not to overpack, I like to pair different cover-ups with different swim suits, so I figured I’d make room in my bag for options.

I packed a few pairs of shorts — namely these and these — with some flowy cotton tanks to pair with them. I can throw all of these pieces over my bikini or in town or around the house, which is key since I’m trying not to overpack.

With any summer getaway that involves the beach, there are a few essentials: your beach bag must be locked and loaded (SPF, sunnies, and the like), including some easy-to-read books and magazines and a refreshing flavored water.

I pretty much always stick with cheap flip-flops (these and these are my favorite) when I go on beach vacations, because I don’t want the sand to ruin my nicer pairs (and I have admittedly left behind a pair or two before on accident, oops). I’m also bringing my favorite Nikes, because I love to go on early morning runs or bike rides along the water.

As far as beauty products go, I like to keep my hair and makeup minimal and simple, of course, but I also love to bring a few luxurious products to use after a long day in the sun. Think hydrating sheet masks, after-sun moisturizers, and refreshing facial mists for mid-day pick-me-ups.

Be sure to keep up with me on Instagram and Snapchat (@emilykgannon) to follow along with my travels!
What do you pack for a beach vacation? Am I missing anything important?

I just love the beach and beach days are the absolute best! I always keep a couple fun tinted balms on hand for beach days and those tarte ones are gorgeous so I need to try them!
