Winter Beauty Updates
November means winter is right around the corner (or already here; it snowed back home in Syracuse last week!). This is the time to trade in your mattifying primer and darker shade of bronzer for products that give a boost of extra hydration — to both hair and skin — and glow to the face. Long gone are the days of sweating off your makeup and letting your hair frizz up from the humid air — it’s time to add in the shimmer and moisturizing products that combat against the cold, dry air.
In the winter, I love to sport a glowy, dewy makeup look — I always call it “snow glow.” To achieve this, I reach for a shimmery highlighter that has a light, champagne-toned look to it, as opposed to gold, bronzy, silver, etc. I switch between two specific ones, this one which is my favorite powder one, and this one being my favorite cream-based one. They both give a beautiful glow to the skin, so I like to use them on the tops of my cheek bones and down the center of my nose.
I also love to use a lip shade that has a bit more of a sheen or shimmer to it — lately I have been loving this moisturizing formula (I have it in a few different shades). I love to layer it on top of my everyday lipstick shade, just to add a little shimmer and dimension to the look.
For hair products, I find that in the winter my hair gets extra dry from the cold air, so I love to rotate in a heavier oil-based product to smooth over my hair. Lately I have been using a little bit of this one on my wet hair right after I get out of the shower, and then again as a heat protectant and to give the finishing touch after I’ve styled my hair. It’s my favorite all-in-one product lately!
Similarly, the dry air sucks the moisture out of my skin, too, so I love to supplement my skincare routine with a hydrating mask. I got a sample size of this one from Sephora a few weeks ago, and I love it because you slather it on before bed and wake up with rehydrated and refreshed skin. Perfect for perking up your skin after a day in the chilly weather!
I also use a hand cream about 100,000 times a day — it’s basically an obsession! I hate when they get dry or red in the winter, so I like to use a heavy-duty lotion to combat that. I’ve been using this one lately — I love the subtle scent and how smooth it makes my hands.
My last skincare product is an old favorite: this tanning lotion. You use this while you are in the shower so it’s quick and easy to use, and it just helps me keep a little bit of that summer glow all year round. I feel so much more confident with a little bit of a tan, so I love to use this during the colder months when I don’t get as much sun.
